Description of current work:
I have utilized hand knitting techniques to produce the copper wire mesh that I use as inclusions in blown glass forms.
My ‘Crystal Crochet’ series concentrates on pattern, emphasizing the purity of the mesh suspended in the clear crystal.
In crochet the repeated stitches and individual actions that go towards the making of the object are visible in the finished piece; I see this as symbolic of how in life small actions can build up in to something larger. I try to capture these ‘small actions’ within my glass forms. Essentially my work is about human emotion; the need to capture time and memory.
My ‘Del Mar’ Series are knitted pieces that incorporate colour, Inspired by the translucent hues of seaweed caught up in waves and light through the sea. There is emphasis on how the structure of the mesh dictates the form and how it also affects the path of the colour. Light projects through these pieces creating wave like shadows.
